The Brides' Project has two very important purposes; to provide every bride with the things she needs for a beautiful wedding within her budget, and helping children and adults with cancer.
I began this Project when I realized how self-indulgent weddings were. All that money, time and effort spent on one day? Eeep! Why can't your wedding make a difference while you have that amazing day to share with family and friends? It can happen, and can work towards helping others.
I lovingly remember all the people that I lost to cancer; my best friend Lisa at age 9, my cousin Jean, and so many other family members and friends. As of August 11th, 2006, this site is also dedicated to my lovely sister-in-law Sayuri and my Grandma. Sayuri successfully went through her surgery, chemo and radiation treatment for breast cancer, and is on the path to complete recovery. My Grandma just lost the life partner she's had since she was 16 years old... her best friend in the world. She could tell you about true love like no one else. Grandma... keep fighting. I know that Grandpa would want you to. I also know that you feel it's time to join him and I respect that. You've enjoyed the best love anyone could wish for in life, and one I hope for every bride who comes in here.
Feb 13/2006. Grandma passed away today. I don't think she could face Valentine's Day and picked her time. Goodbye Grandma. I love you. Thank you for teaching me what love is all about.
Today, the Project is set up to raise money for cancer charities... and giving you options as a bride to make a contribution through your wedding. We'll help make it beautiful and meaningful... truly a day to remember for many reasons.
Helping Brides: I understand the struggle of wanting a beautiful wedding on a pauper's budget. The Brides' Project receives gown donations from both corporate sponsors and other brides... and has a HUGE selection of designer gowns, most of which are BRAND NEW. I also deal with wholesalers to provide brides with other accessories at incredible prices.It's about brides helping brides have a beautiful, memorable and budget-conscious wedding without mortgaging the house! I also provide a warm, friendly and comfortable environment for browsing, trying on dresses, and relaxing. I won't follow you into the change room... you just make yourself at home. But, if you find THE dress, I wanna see! The glow on a woman's face in the perfect gown is priceless!
Helping Children and adults with cancer: The driving force behind The Brides' Project was that I lost my best friend to cancer when we were both 9 years old. It's one of those memories that has stayed with me because I felt so helpless at the time.
One of things that we can ALL do to help a child with cancer is to contribute towards sending them to camp and provide ongoing events and services that bring joy to their lives. These services are incredibly important... and go far beyond the camp experience. They are year-round, comprehensive programs that provide the needed support, and give them a smile when they need it most! These camps and other events allow them to be with their friends and other children, growing relationships and bonds that will last a lifetime.
Cancer robs them of their childhood while they're surrounded by doctors, hospitals, chemo and other medical interventions, but through the Brides' Project and our partners, we can help them laugh and play like other kids. All proceeds from gown donations go directly to help the kids. Further to helping the children; adults, friends, and family are also victims of cancer.
Adults suffer too. We try to contribute as much as possible to the Canadian Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Foundation during the year through events that our clients volunteer for. If you're willing to participate, we're willing to contribute. Typical contributions are $1000 per event to sponsor YOUR effort!
Your role: Your donation of wedding items or contribution to The Brides' Project will go a long way in helping other brides have their perfect wedding, and make a huge difference in our ability to donate to the children and other cancer charities. Your support by purchasing or donating your gown, accessories, bouquets, and many other items we provide will help keep this project going and help me continue offering donations to Camp Quality and the other organizations we support that help the fight against cancer.
