We love dress donations and acknowledge the generosity of the many individuals who take the time to bring their dress in and write letters to the next bride. Here’s one letter from a bride in Saskatchewan that we’re sharing with permission, because it embraces the spirit of what we do here and is irrefutable evidence that YES, you can wash a wedding dress! (OK, maybe not all, but here’s one you can!)
The Brides’ Project:
I bought my wedding gown second hand from a store in Regina, SK. However, they don’t take them back. I knew stories like yours existed but google wasn’t helping much, then I saw the National. And now you have my dress. Thank you for what you do. And feel free to share my story with the new owner — the third owner — of this dress.
My husband and I were married on October 7, 2006. I chose my dress because it was classic, durable, and fit my budget. I loved it. And I love wearing it. The next best thing? This baby is 100% machine washable! The formality of a wedding doesn’t really allow the bride to have any fun, like bounding in the puddles that formed on our wedding day. But then on my one year anniversary my hubby bought me a “Trash the Dress” photo shoot with our photographer friend. So much fun! I have laughed a lot in this dress, from when I bought it, on Our Day, and when I trashed the dress. This dress has seen a lot of dirty business too — from the rain and muck to ice cream, and it’s all come out in the wash. It is as durable as my marriage, as fun as my marriage, and as loved as my marriage. A blessed dress, and now for a new blessed bride.
All the best,
Taren Trew

Thanks for letting us share, Taren! And thanks to her photographers (credits below) for letting us share her wedding photos. The wedding looked like great fun!
