In the meantime (we don’t like to put people on hold, but it gets kinda busy ’round here), we have some seasonal entertainment courtesy of our resident kitties to put you in the holiday mood!
We were hard-pressed to decide who our last five Movember winners of $1,000 would be, so we went random for this part.
The five winners are (in no particular order):
Peter: http://mobro.co/PFriesen
Matt (you may recognize his mo’ — it was the face of our campaign!): http://www.movember.com/m/769484
Paul: http://ca.movember.com/mospace/1392448
Al: http://ca.movember.com/mospace/376236/

Mad props go to Jan, who created a special promotional video for his Movember campaign. Check it out, it’s a DOOZY!
Thanks to everyone who participated, we’ll see you next Movember!
Movember – Special Announcement from Jan Keck | Red Gecko Productions on Vimeo.
We did it! And we did it through rain and wind and layers upon layers of clothing — including veils and crinolines! As always, we drew lots of curious attention with our outfits, but there were plenty of others who dressed up, too.

It was great to see so many people out on a Sunday morning (after Nuit Blanche, where people were up all night long) showing their community spirit and support.
More pics at the album, or view as a full-screen slideshow.
I shot some video, but it’s pretty shaky!
Our continued thanks to all the lovely brides who have parted with their dresses, and entrusted us to find new homes for them!
One of the styles we have been asked for frequently, is the classic mermaid. This week, Siu-Lan brought in this absolutely gorgeous example:
This is the image they used for their Thank You cards, and from all of us here at The Brides’ Project, thank YOU!!! If you’d like to see the dress truly in action, you can also check out their fabulous wedding video – I have to say it’s one of the best I’ve ever seen! Kudos to Michael Wong.

Why, so you can dance to your heart’s content…
I haven’t posted a first dance video for a while, so when I found this nearly six-minute-long medley I knew I had to show it for the dance-lovers out there who don’t shy away from some choreography. I’m sure the practice was heaps of fun for the couple!

OK, I couldn’t resist the title, as a follow-up to the last post!
The idea of a winter wedding would probably make the average bride shudder, in more ways than one, but bear in mind that there are some distinct advantages to hosting a wedding in the winter, the greatest being availability and price reductions for most if not all of your wedding vendors.
The whole wedding industry slows down and as a consumer you will notice a difference in your favour.
You will notice this first and foremost with the venue, where off-season rates are significantly lower, just like hotels. You will also have a better success rate for negotiating prices in the off-season. There are other lowered expenses indirectly related to your wedding such as hotel rooms for your out-of-town guests, and even their flights. Another bonus is that it won’t compete with people’s summertime activities, major holidays, and will bring a much-needed weekend of warmth to your winter, and future winters!
It’s worth considering a winter date if you are on a strict budget. Think of how much you’ll save on your honeymoon flights. Presumably you’ll be heading somewhere very warm, anyway, and this would give you a larger budget to travel further and/or longer than you’d originally planned. Think of the reduced cost of future anniversary trips. Changing your date could potentially save you and your spouse a large sum of money over many years of marriage.
What about photography? It won’t be the same if it’s winter.
Probably not, but it can be beautiful, too — that’s the job of your photographer, to bring out the magic in your photos in any setting. Check out the wedding video from Russia and you’ll see.
If you’ve been fortunate enough to attend a wedding in an exotic location, you may expect a wedding that follows a local culture. I came across this Bangkok wedding on Vimeo and couldn’t help noticing just how western it was — in fact, if it weren’t for the Thai writing and speaking, I wouldn’t have guessed it had taken place in Thailand at all. In the modern global village, this may trend to the norm but personally I’m hoping weddings don’t begin to all look the same, everywhere — I enjoy the differences! And speaking as a wedding photographer, I don’t necessarily encourage tradition, especially if the bride isn’t traditional. When asked if she should do [x], I always say, “Do whatever makes you comfortable/happy, it’s your wedding…”
Clocking in at 8 minutes the video is quite long, but if you enjoy weddings (especially the, er, plush ones) I think you’ll find this one interesting, too. (Note the absence of western tradition about the groom and bride not seeing each other before the wedding. I think it’s cute that she’s fixing his tie and he’s helping her button her dress.)

After the funny First Dance routines became all the rage, It was only a matter of time before the other traditional dances followed suit. What’s next, you think? A twist to the bouquet throws?
Wow, THIS I have never seen before… a church entrance to “Forever” by Chris Brown:

Happy 233rd Birthday, USA!
Wedding Dresses: How To Choose The Right Wedding Dress For Your Body Shape
At two and a half minutes, this video fails to mention a few common body shapes! But there are some practical tips you may find useful if you need a starting point.
Here’s another video about alternatives to the traditional wedding dress:
Wedding Dresses: Alternatives To The Traditional Wedding Dress
I have some big posts in the pipeline, but instead of keeping you waiting (and waiting), I found this hilarious wedding dance video featuring five siblings and a cousin in Salt Lake City which will entertain you in the meantime.
One of the great things about weddings (and there are many!) is seeing the family bonds front-and-centre. I mean, who else would you shamelessly dance like this for? Certainly not the people at the annual company picnic! No, you could only do it for people you TRULY love
And whoever put together this song medley is wicked — check out the moves near the four-minute mark, I nearly fell out of my chair laughing! I love this family’s unbridled enthusiasm and congratulate them all for not sustaining any injuries (at least, I hope not)…
Dance on, people, and Happy Friday!
I’m back after a loooooooong absence in this space — back to posting upcoming events, back to Twittering, back to posting wedding resources and info and all that good stuff. The Brides’ Project is run by volunteers, and sometimes we need a break…
Have you checked out the cherry blossoms in High Park? This is what they looked like last Sunday and Monday.
With spring comes the busy wedding season, and we’ll post more photos of our brides as the season gets underway.
I’ll leave you now with a video, because you know how fond I am of fun First Dance videos. Here’s a Grease-inspired one — enjoy!
I would LOVE to see this at a wedding!

For those of you in the process of selecting churches for your wedding, you might be interested in seeing how they look with a wedding in progress. Short of actually attending a wedding you will probably just use your imagination, but I did come across a video shot in June 2008 at St. James Anglican Cathedral (Church and King) by local cinematography/photography company StillMotion. It has sweeping views of the property, the interior, the ceremony, and the moments leading up to and photography after. Enjoy!
Dorkiness = Sexiness. Really. from andrew msv on Vimeo.
Tanja Lippert is a photographer based out of California who shoots film, which is amazing in itself considering how much the industry uses digital these days, but she’s also a self-admitted dork who extols the virtue of dork energy. Say what you will about dorks, but dork energy results in creativity behind the lens — powered by a laugh that makes other people laugh, which makes for great pictures!
I’ve included this video so you can see that photography shoots needn’t be boring — no way! They should be full of fun and frolic, and bursting with ideas, especially engagement shoots. If you’ve booked your wedding and worked yourself into a tizzy trying to plan it all, take some fun time out and get some sassy engagement photos to put you back in the wedding mood.
An American friend of mine is travelling in the Philippines right now for the first time, and he shared some of his initial impressions about the country with me (I’m Filipino) via email last night. So today when I came across this wedding video shot in Manila I thought I would share it with you — a slice of wedding life in a global community. It’s also a sweet story with interesting shooting angles and filters, family moments, and lots of POV videography goodness
Enjoy!
