Thanks to all our fabulous gown donors! In just a few days of 2010, we have been fortunate enough to receive several dresses, three of which are size 22. Since salons often donate sizes 8-12, it’s great to see other sizes come in so that we continue to offer dresses for the beautiful brides in all sizes of the spectrum.
Here is Stephanie in her gorgeous dress, with her handsome hubby Kevin. She had the straps added, but otherwise the gown is completely unaltered and in fabulous condition. Jennifer also sent in 2 dresses that are extremely similar and the same size… they offer the variations of halter and strapless, but are otherwise almost identical! As you can see, when you add a beautiful bride to a gorgeous dress, the result is spectacular
Seeing as you’ve already been in 2010 for four days this is hardly a timely welcome, but the pixel-pushers of the website went on holiday for a little while and now we’re back in the swing of things. We’ve got a wedding show later this month (more on that soon), but let’s start off the year with a featured dress, shall we?
We were fortunate to receive a dress donation recently that was bought in China for a wedding back here in September of 2008. This size 6/8 strapless ivory gown has detailing that must be seen in person to appreciate. I tried to take photos of the design, but photos fall short of the full effect of sparkle and texture and sequins. I’ve never seen any dress like this one, in the shop or anywhere. It also comes with a matching veil! Make an appointment and try it on.
We have a rack of salon-donated designer frocks at The Brides’ Project, and one such gown is a Rena Koh size 10 silk shantung and organza in a deeper shade of ivory. Measurements:
Bust: 36″
Waist: 28″
Hips: 40″
As you can see, the skirt is very full and there are layers and layers of organza. The silk bodice is strapless and the Basque waistline is flattering for more shapely figures. (See this article on the different waistlines and what style is most flattering.) If you prefer the luxurious feel of silk and a romantic style of wedding dress, ask about this Rena Koh in the front room!
[I was at the shop yesterday and am pretty sure I saw the gown there (I took these photographs when the gown was donated), but what tends to happen is when I post a photo the dress is sold! Let's see what happens this time.] Note from Helen… it sold! But it’s a great example of some beautiful dresses we receive.
Alexis donated this gorgeous ivory silk strapless Emmanuel gown in a size 10. It’s lightweight, has a side zip, crinoline, sweep train, with an interesting criss-cross of material in the back. It would suit a shorter bride (probably 5’5″ or less?), and it’s already been drycleaned. Make an appointment and try it on!
Some details about this dress:
- Size 14 but it is a corset back so very adjustable
- A-line dress
- bustle already added
- a petite length dress, but bride was 5’5″ (“…and I still had to wear a 3 inch heel…and probably should have been wearing about 3.5 inches as I tripped on it some lol!)
- wedding was in October 2007 so it’s not quite 2 years old.
Thank you for donating your beautiful dress, Shawna, we’ll be sure to find a good home for it!

We received another “good karma” dress over Labour Day Weekend from a lovely woman named Jodi, whose recent wedding at Palais Royale — judging from the photos — exuded good karma! Click on either image above to see more of the dress in action.
The dress is an ivory San Patrick Baltico in a size 14. A description:
Dupioni silk strapless gown with ruching at bust line. Slim fit through waistline with slight gather along side of slim skirt. Beaded lace applique accents.
It won’t last long in the shop — make an appointment if you’d like to try it on!

When we receive dress donations, we don’t always know what motivates people to donate their gown but we are always very grateful to be the ‘steward of the dress’, if you will… we take great care to find them good homes!
Just this week, another example of donor generosity (shared with permission):
Since I was lucky enough to have such a beautiful wedding gown, I would now like to give the same gift to someone else by donating it…
… the dress was purchased in Yorkville at Alan Cherry about 2 years ago. It is primarily made of dupioni silk and has hand-sewn Swarovski crystals all over the bodice. The gown is strapless and is a cream colour. Also, it has not been cleaned but has been stored in a breathable wedding gown bag.
Thank you, Christine, for sharing your dress and your wedding photos with us!
We receive most of our stock of wedding gowns from salons, but we also receive dresses from individuals who wish to contribute to our cause by donating their bridalwear and accessories (shoes, veils, etc.) for resale.
I’ve seen some lucky brides walk out the door with an entire matching outfit — dress, shoes, veil — because their timing was such that a bride who was the same height and size had just dropped it off, making the shopping experience extremely easy, and easy on the bank account!
For more information on donating your wedding dress, see our Item Donations page.
It’s happened THREE times in a row now: when I’ve taken photos to post here as featured gowns, brides try them on and either buy them or put them on hold so I can’t post the photos! At this rate, I’ll have to take loads more photos each time I’m in the shop to keep up.
This is another from the shipment from Bridal Elegance, by St. Patrick, Size 12:
Gorgeous lines and overlay on this gown, come in and check it out!
Today’s featured wedding gown is by DaVinci, Size 6, Style #F8152 donated by Bridal Image of Mississauga.
Organza and satin gown, strapless bodice with delicate hand pattern beading with a touch of metallic embroidery thread, full A-line skirt with matching motifs extends into sweep train.
Today’s featured wedding gown is one from the shipment generously donated by Bridal Elegance that I mentioned last week.
Cosmobella is a Size 8 ivory gown with a side zipper, so the detailing on the front is mirrored on the back, which makes it unusual among wedding gowns and one of the things I love about this dress.
