When we receive dress donations, we don’t always know what motivates people to donate their gown but we are always very grateful to be the ‘steward of the dress’, if you will… we take great care to find them good homes!

Just this week, another example of donor generosity (shared with permission):

Since I was lucky enough to have such a beautiful wedding gown, I would now like to give the same gift to someone else by donating it…

… the dress was purchased in Yorkville at Alan Cherry about 2 years ago. It is primarily made of dupioni silk and has hand-sewn Swarovski crystals all over the bodice. The gown is strapless and is a cream colour. Also, it has not been cleaned but has been stored in a breathable wedding gown bag.

Thank you, Christine, for sharing your dress and your wedding photos with us!

As volunteers at The Brides’ Project we are always in awe of the fantastic people we get to meet and interact with… we couldn’t do what we do without you!  Since the segment Wedding Bills aired on CBC The National we have been flooded with donations… on a recent stop at the shop we joked that it looked like the front hall had thrown up dresses!

We’ve received some fabulous donations from all across the country and they keep coming in!… which means some great new frocks for our brides-to-be!

We are happy to try to find a new home for dresses less than 5 years old.  Unfortunately, we just don’t have the space for dresses older than this or for bridesmaid/mother of the bride dresses.

To donate your dress, you can drop it off anytime during business hours (listed on the website) or mail it directly to us.  Dresses do not need to be cleaned prior to being donated.  Some of our donors include a note to the future bride to be.  This generally includes wishing them luck, possibly describing a bit about what the dress meant to their day, sharing a funny story about their dress and/or describing why donating the dress to The Brides Project was important to them.  This is not necessary but is a nice touch if you have the time.

We are also always looking for donations of hangers, large garment bags, mirrors and most importantly… your time!  If you would like to join our growing team of fun and dedicated volunteers, drop us a line!

Wedding Dresses: How To Choose The Right Wedding Dress For Your Body Shape

At two and a half minutes, this video fails to mention a few common body shapes! But there are some practical tips you may find useful if you need a starting point.

Here’s another video about alternatives to the traditional wedding dress:

Wedding Dresses: Alternatives To The Traditional Wedding Dress

I was talking to a bride about this just last Saturday, and happened to read a related article about it today. It’s something that comes up quite often now that the majority of wedding gowns are sleeveless, so this may be helpful for more than a few people.

Stacy Reeves is a wedding photographer based in Dallas, Texas, and has some suggestions for the brides who are searching for alternatives to the strapless gown:

What, it’s April already? It’s been a week since the last post, thanks to the advent of Spring and all the general busyness it seems to generate.

The biggest news is that our March sale was FAB-U-LOUS and we want to thank everyone who came out, tried on some wedding frocks, found their wedding frocks plus veils and shoes and accessories, saved $$$, all the while boosting the local economy AND boosting the lives of people living with cancer. Can you believe you did all of that just by coming to The Brides’ Project? You did! Our number-crunching volunteer is on holiday so I don’t know what the final tallies were, but it was a big month for us and I hope we continue the momentum.

Now, the other result of our big sale is a reduced inventory, which is something we really needed because we just got another shipment of dresses last weekend.

Our donor is Bridal Elegance in Exeter, who carry designer labels and sent us three big boxes of frocks:

We were unpacking the boxes on Saturday, and there were some beautiful beaded gowns in there — a number of Paloma Blancas and at least one Alfred Sung. If you’re looking for a designer dress, you won’t find a better deal because we mark them WAY down from their original price. These dresses are BRAND NEW!

So, a great big THANK-YOU to the ladies at Bridal Elegance in Exeter (you’ll see on their home page they donate to breast cancer research). We hope you pop by their shop if you’re in Exeter and if you’re in Toronto make The Brides’ Project your first stop for wedding shopping. Don’t forgot to make an appointment! Email us at: info@thebridesproject.com or call (416) 469-6777.

YAHOOO! Francine Duhaime from The Bridal House in Edmonton just sent 2 HUGE boxes of dresses, most of which are Watters & Watters which typically retail starting at $2000. So far dresses in sizes 6, 10, 12 and one size 20 (Ginza Collection) have been unpacked.
