Your wedding gowns are the primary source of donations to cancer charities. We will make it easy for you to donate your wedding gown and other items. Donations can be dropped off without an appointment during any regular business hours. We encourage you to leave a note for the next lucky bride, or simply your email address if you would like the buyer to send a thank you note to acknowledge the contribution that you have made.
At our Toronto location, we mostly sell gowns that are 5 years old or less due to client demands and space limitations! Please see below for dresses that are more than 5 years old. We also accept bridesmaid/mothers’ dresses. Dresses DO NOT have to be cleaned prior to donation. If your dress HAS been cleaned, please leave the preservation box at home.
FAQ’s
- Not in Toronto? Don’t worry! We regularly receive dresses from all over Canada. If the gown is sent via Canada Post using the following hints, it shouldn’t cost more than about $15-20 to post it, and it will arrive in great shape. While this might sound odd, the best way to send it is to take it out of its ‘gown coffin’. Turn it inside out, and roll it up like a sleeping bag. Since there will be acid free paper in the packaging it has from your dry cleaner, you can wrap that around it as extra protection. Then pop it into the smallest box it will fit into. This is how gowns are sent from one of my major donors. The Brides’ Project address is on our home page. Also, if you’d like to include a note for the new bride, that would be great! It’s optional, but our clients love getting them. We carefully track and save these notes, and any requests you have (e.g. to be contacted when it sells). So, feel free to do that if you like.
- Dress is more than 5 years old? No worries! There are some styles that are timeless, and we try to place dresses on the rack that we feel will sell ‘as is’. We also work with a plethora of other charities including dance groups, theatres, camps, films, prom charities, school boards etc., who are extremely grateful for them and put them to good use! If your dress will not sell on the rack with our other stock, we find a suitable home for it. Nothing is thrown away or discarded. We welcome these dresses, but do ask for your understanding that they may be used for alternate purposes.
- We do not issue tax receipts. We are a 3rd party fundraiser for cancer charities and do not fall under CRA guidelines for tax receipts.
- Corporate donors… we issue BUSINESS receipts. We need a statement of the value of the goods at the time of donation. We issue you a statement of the value for your accountant, and they are written off your inventory at that value. As your accountant will tell you, this allows you a great write-off while making a very meaningful and important contribution. Thank you.
