Frequently Asked Questions

Should I get a facial before my wedding?

The answer to this question varies greatly from bride to bride.  If facials are part of your normal beauty routine, then you should definitely continue with them up until about a week before the wedding, every four to six weeks.  The same can be said if you are going to be starting a facial regime at least three to four months before your wedding, that way you and your facialist  will have time to determine if the treatment that you are using is the right one for you, and there will be sufficient time to see the results that you want.  If, however, you have not been undergoing regular facials in the months prior to your wedding, the week before the big day is not the time to give it a first go.  That being said, for most brides, a good exfoliation routine every couple of days for the two weeks before the wedding can help give your skin that lovely glow that we all want on our wedding day!

Do I have to wear really heavy foundation on my wedding day?

The easy answer to this question is “not if you don’t want to!”   Years ago, when makeup was not as advanced as it is now, it was customary to use heavy foundation products on brides in order for pictures to turn out well.  However,  with the advancements in foundations today, most makeup can stand up to photography without needing to be heavy.  I tell all my brides that they should be wearing what they are comfortable with.  If you are someone who likes looking flawless with an obvious makeup finish to your skin, then opt for a slightly higher coverage foundation.  On the other hand, if you are not used to wearing a lot of foundation and would feel uncomfortable doing so on your wedding day, then work with your makeup artist to find a combination of lightweight foundation and concealer that will give you that gorgeous glowing look without being heavy.

Is there any makeup look that I cannot do on my wedding day?

Absolutely not!  On your wedding day, anything that will make you feel beautiful and comfortable and confident is what you should be wearing.  The best way to achieve a beautiful look that is going to make you feel all of these things is to look for inspiration in magazines and advertisements and discuss your needs clearly and honestly with your makeup artist.  It is also a very good idea to have a consultation with your artist at least a month prior to your wedding so that you are both on the same page when it gets to the big day.  At the end of the day, if you feel that a smoky eye and red lip is going to make you look your best, then choose that option.  On the other hand, if you are a no-makeup kind of woman, then go with a more natural and fresh look for the big day.

Can I do my own makeup on my wedding day?

Yes you can, but be sure to put enough thought into it beforehand so that it is a fun and relaxing time for you on your wedding day and not an added stress.  Look for inspirational images beforehand just as you would if you were working with a makeup artist, and do a trial with yourself before the wedding just as you would with an artist.  It is always helpful to go to a makeup counter when choosing a foundation for your wedding, as the makeup professionals at most counters will be happy to help you choose the right formula that you can use at home on the day.  It is also very helpful to take photos of your trial on a digital camera so that you can determine what parts of your makeup are working on camera and which need to be tweaked a little bit.
